Many people learn to use the various setting on their digital cameras and think that they can now take the best possible pictures. They forget that a digital camera can only apply the settings on the image it receives and the quality of the image depends on the lens used. A vast variety of lenses are available, all with specific functions; but there are 4 basic lens types that you need to get great photos – as your skill levels improve you can go on to more advanced lens options.

Most cameras come with general purpose lenses fitted to them – those with a focal length in the range of 35 – 70 mm. This is a point and shoot lens and will produce good photos in any conditions – but usually not great ones.

For photos of distant objects and for nature and sporting photos where you want to appear to be near the action, you will need a medium telephoto lens. These lenses are also very good for taking portraits and close ups because the object you are focusing on will seem to stand out from the background and create a more dramatic image. This is a very flexible lens and experimenting with it will show the results that can be achieved with changing perspectives – the way an image is presented can be completely changed. These lenses normally have a focal length of 85 – 135 mm.

For real long distance photography you will need a long telephoto lens. These lenses have a focal length in from 135 mm onwards, although 300 mm is the common maximum, and are your only option when you want to photograph distant objects and get a clear and sharp image. Long telephoto lens can also be used for medium range work when you need to highlight a part of a distant object and the point of focus will make that aspect of the composition stand out.

The last of the four basic digital photography lenses is the wide angle lens with a focal length of less than 50 mm. This is the only lens to use if you want to capture wide sweeping landscapes or get panoramic views. Using this lens when taking pictures of a person or a group in an outdoor setting will make the object of focus stand out from the background and create a more dramatic effect.

Photography allows us to capture all of the important events in our lives. A digital camera is a camera that uses pixels to create an image that is store inside of the camera on a memory card. Several different brands of digital cameras are available online and in retail stores. The purchase prices vary from as low as $50 up to $1000 or more. At this time, there are currently three types of digital photography cameras available.

One of the different types of digital photography cameras is a digital consumer camera. They are very easy to use and lightweight so this is a great camera for a beginner photographer. A majority of these cameras have built-in lenses and have special features like a self-timer. These cameras should mostly be used to take pictures of stationary images because it does not have ability to take quality pictures of fast moving objects.

A digital singles line reflex (DSLR) camera is the second type of digital photography camera. These types of digital photography cameras allow the photographer to take a variety of pictures because they come with interchangeable lens. Pictures of dark images and fast moving images are easier to take with this camera. Several automatic and manual features are available for this camera. Although this camera is heavier than the digital consumer camera, it provides great quality pictures. Some consumers prefer cameras than are more lightweight.

Another one of the types of digital photography cameras is the digital prosumer camera, which is on the market for professional photographers. This camera is called a prosumer camera because it has a consumer price tag even though it is design for professional photography use. This camera is similar to the DSLR camera. But the difference is that these cameras offer better image resolution, control features and designs than the other types of cameras. The cost of this camera is higher as well.

When shopping for a digital camera, it is best to determine first which type of digital camera will meet your needs. You should also look at the cost of the camera, the features that it offers, the amount of battery life and the type of accessories you are able to purchase. A good source of information would be consumer’s reviews and research, which are both available online.

Many photography lovers have recently realized that their hobby can actually make them money. Just like singing, painting and drawing, photography lovers can turn their hobbies into money-making careers successfully. Most professional photographers actually started out by following their hobby in photography and therefore love doing it. According to research, enjoying one’s job is one of the key factors that make a job not only interesting but also more profit making. All in all, photography lovers should not treat it as a hobby when it is their job but rather accord it the respect it deserves in order to attain the goals they have set for the business. Some of the factors that should be considered include budgeting, advertising as well as marketing ideas among others.

It is very important to have a business plan before setting up the actual business of photography. A business plan in the case of a photography business involves factors such as how the business will perform in case of difficult times, the line of business it will focus on as well as the targeted customers and market availability. A business person is better able to make a well informed decision if they have all these factors set and will therefore set up a successful business. The business owner should also have an estimate of the amount of money the business will be expected to generate. Knowing this will allow the business owner make informed decisions about how much money they need to spend to ensure that the company brings in profits in the future. If the money required to start up the business is not available, the business owner may have to create proposals and source for investors who will be willing to invest in their business and ensure that it starts off in a good way.

Another important digital photography business tip is ensuring that the goals set are not too high and are actually achievable. Business owners should not have goals that are too high in terms of revenue generation especially in the first few months and they should also have reasonable charges for their services. By doing this, the business owner is prepared to handle the running expenses of the business even if it does not bring in any profits initially. In order to understand just how much to charge clients, it is important to look at competitors in the region and on the internet and compare charges. When comparing charges, the business owner can also find out what area in the industry is not being covered and specialize in it. As a result, the business will have little competition and much more to offer to their prospective clientele.

Are you one of those people who is intimidated by the range of setting and functions on a digital SLR camera and are thinking of opting for a simple “point and shoot” one instead? While these point and shoot cameras are okay for normal indoor use, they are limited in what can be done outdoors and the special effect options are almost nil. While the high end ones have functions that the hobbyist will never use and their price is prohibitive, a newcomer should find his introduction to digital photography with a medium range digital camera

The first thing to remember about digital photography is that a unlike a film camera a bad picture does not result in any waste – it can simple be deleted in the camera itself. With the number of photos you take not burning a hole in your pocket, you can take as many pictures as you want and while keeping the good ones, learn from the bad ones before deleting them. With the freedom to experiment and a little reading on the basics, you introduction to digital photography will be smooth and easy. Soon enough you will want to start using the various setting available to you to improve your photography.

When there are important pictures to take and you cannot risk experimenting there is always the “auto” function to fall back on – all you need to do is press the shutter button so you can play safe when you need to. Also, a higher end digital camera will have a better lens and sensors so even in the “auto” mode you will get better results than you would if you were using a basic point and shoot camera.

Any introduction to digital photography must take into account what the photographer can do after the photos are taken. A digital photo must be transferred to a computer and every camera will have the software to enable this; but after the picture is downloaded to the computer you can start editing and manipulating it to improve on your efforts. You can modify, edit and enhance a photo as you want and add a lot of special effects to change an ordinary photo into a great one. In other words, in digital photography there is really no such thing as a bad photo – only one that will need more repair and manipulation to improve its quality.

When you find that digital photography is much more than simply capturing an image for posterity, you will be happy that you bought a camera that gives you the scope to be creative.

People who have considered turning their hobbies into careers understand that there are many ways they can make money and this is the same case for photography lovers. Some of the various ways photography lovers can make money is by selling pictures to art galleries and libraries, newspapers, magazines as well as sell them to individual picture lovers and art collectors. In order for photographers to make money, they have to conduct a vast research into their market in order to understand what they want and therefore target them when they are creating advertisements. Since photography is mainly a work of art to be enjoyed by visualizing, the only way they can be advertised is through websites, magazines or video footages. This is of course because the pictures have to be seen in order for potential clients to understand what they are buying and if it is worth it. All in all, all photographers need to have a portfolio before they even consider any form of online marketing strategies. A portfolio shows potential clients the kind of work a photographer has done in the past and what they are capable of doing.

Photographers are now able to create online portfolios by creating websites because the internet is now widely used. With a website, photographers get name recognition because they not only share pictures but also stories about their lives and this increases the demand for pictures. Photographers can use websites as an ideal online marketing tool for their businesses because clients do not have to search for their information from different sources. In order to ensure that there is traffic generated to the new website, a professional can be hired to make this their primary focus. This can be made possible by creating a link between several websites by using articles, personal stories and past or present clientele and posting them on the websites that one wishes to be linked to their photography site.

Another very effective online marketing strategy for digital photography is joining various social networking sites. By doing this, many other internet users can view the portfolio as well as all contact information and this also makes the traffic of the newly created website go higher because the address to the website is also availed. It is important to focus on a single genre in order to maximize on it and this strategy has worked very well for many professional digital photographers. This is exemplified by photographers who want to focus on wedding photography only placing their advertisements in wedding related sites and therefore increasing chances of potential clients. Clients who visit the website from focused advertising are more likely to convert into sales because they were actually looking for the service.

The “Sports” or “Action” settings of a digital camera are not the only things you can use or do to get great sporting photos. In the digital photography of sport the user has a much larger l role to play than in other types of photography as the timing of the photos have to be perfect – and there is just a split second in which to take it.

If you are taking photos of a game being played on a large field, you have two ways of going about it. You can keep the camera to your eye and follow the action as it moves so that you are ready to press the shutter button in a split second – this is the best technique for games like hockey and footballs where the action happen anywhere on the field. The other way is better for games where you can predict where the action will occur – the home plate in a baseball game or the basket in a basketball game – and can keep the camera pointed in that direction so you can click when the action moves into the frame.

Even if you have lightening sharp reflexes, there is still a problem – the camera takes time after your press the shutter button to make the final adjustments before taking the photos. Although this time lag is almost imperceptible – only a fraction of a second – that is enough for you to miss the crucial moment. What you should do to resolve this problem is to keep the shutter button half pressed so that the camera is constantly adjusting its setting and can snap the picture immediately when the button is fully pressed. You can also use the “Continuous” mode on the camera so it will take a rapid burst of photos as long as the button is being pressed. In this way you will get a number of photos taken in a few seconds and can choose which the ones that you want to keep are.

Another cause of camera delays in the digital photography of sports is that until the previous photos has been written to the memory card, the next one cannot be taken – a memory card with a slow write time will delay the taking of your next picture. The faster the write speed of the memory card, the less will be the time before the next picture can be taken.

Digital photography for dummies tips can be just what you need to make sure that you choose the best digital camera. Maybe you’re interested in getting into photography as a hobby to express yourself or want to be a professional photographer and make a living off of it. Whatever your plans may be, of course the first step is for you to get out there and buy your first digital camera. Of all the tips on digital photography for dummies, it’s pretty easy to buy a camera if you know what to look for.

That brings us to one of the first and most important topics you should be focusing on, which is what budget you have to work with. Digital cameras range significantly in terms of price so you need to be aware of how much money you’re willing to spend. This is the best place to get started because then you know what your price range is and which cameras fit into it, significantly narrowing down the selection. Always look carefully at the different features offered by a camera.

The amount of megapixels offered is important but certainly not the most major feature to take into consideration, even though some people assume so. While the first digital camera had just one megapixel and this was thought to be impressive, these days cameras have up to 7 megapixels and some even more but more is not always better. It’s usually best to stick to cameras with around five megapixels because once you start going any larger than that the pictures are just going to end up taking up a lot of unnecessary space on your memory cards and computer. Always check to see what you get included with the camera.

Different features play importance when going to buy a digital camera, and optical zoom is king. With the digital zoom it causes subjects in pictures to be larger but they look more pixilated, whereas with the optical zoom the subject itself is made larger and so the pictures are crystal clear no matter how much you zoom in. The zoom on a camera is what makes or breaks it, no matter what style of photography you’re interested in. Always save yourself grief by reading reviews before investing any money on a digital camera.

This gives you the chance to get more details on any cameras you’re considering and make it easier to weigh out the pros and cons. You can find thousands of reviews online and get a much better idea of what the different cameras have to offer. Always remember to get a warranty and check before buying to see what the return policy is. These days digital cameras are priced at a few hundred dollars on average which is quite reasonable but still enough that it’s worth taking time to ensure you get the best camera for you.

Many people seem to feel that the only setting on a digital camera is the “Auto” setting and that everything else is just so much technical stuff they don’t need to bother about. While this will generally produce good photos, there will be times when faded colors, shadows and reflections, among other things can ruin what would otherwise be a great picture. It pays to be able to take control of the camera when you need to and these few simple digital photography techniques will help you to do that – and once you have mastered these, there is a lot more to learn that will make leaving the “Auto” setting off a lot of fun.

Colors that lack warmth are a common problem with digital cameras – the white balance (the balancing of the colors) is the cause of the problem. When a camera is set to “Auto” the camera is programmed to balance the colors in a specific way and in the case of pictures taken in bright sunlight this may results in a balancing that makes some of the darker colors look faded. If this is a problem you face, a simple way out is to change the setting form “Auto” to “Cloudy” as this will change the balance ratio and allow for more color and contrast resulting in deeper hues and better color tones.

Outdoor photography with varying degrees of light in the frame can result in images that are lacking in sharpness – using a polarizing filter will compensate for this and allow for much greater sharpness in your photos. A polarizing filter will also produce more saturation and crisper color definition – an example of this will can be seen in the blueness of the sky when a filter is used. Polarizing filter work best when the sunlight is falling directly on the subject so try and take photos with the sun over your shoulder.

Shadows and bright sunlight in the same frame are a major problem with outdoor photography and the use of the flash can help to overcome this. Using a flash in bright sunshine may seem odd, but digital cameras will automatically adjust the flash to compensate for the dark areas caused by the shadows. Since the flash will not work if the camera thinks that it will result in over exposure, this is a problem you do not have to worry about. Even if your camera does not have advanced functions, try using a flash outdoors and see the results – you will soon be able to judge when to use the flash.
